Attack — Afula, Amakim shopping center
19 mai 2003·Afula, centre commercial Amakim
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
The Amakim shopping center in Afula is the meeting point for the entire Jezreel Valley: residents of nearby kibbutzim and villages do their shopping there on the same day. The bomb explodes at the entrance, where security guards are checking bags.
Afula, a Galilee city close to the Green Line, was struck several times during the Second Intifada, its market and bus lines being accessible from West Bank localities. The attack is carried out by a woman, which marks a turning point in the recruitment practices of armed organizations and permanently changes security screening procedures at the entrances of Israeli public spaces.
