Attack — Afula, bus 348

6 avril 1994·Afula, autobus 348

Toll
8

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

Afula, a city in northern Israel located at the crossroads of the Jezreel Valley, is served by bus lines connecting the Galilee to the center of the country.

A car bomb explodes next to a bus in the center of the city. The high-powered charge sets fire to the packed vehicle; passengers and bystanders are killed, dozens of others wounded. It is the first suicide bombing carried out by Hamas inside Israel.

It occurs forty days after the massacre at the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron, which its perpetrators explicitly invoke. It opens the series of suicide bombings against buses and public places that would mark the following two decades.
