The Shoah (1939–1945)
Maintenance of anti-Jewish laws in Morocco after the Allied landing
1943·Maroc
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
The November landing does not overturn the dahirs: it is not until the following year that the exclusion measures are repealed, and seized property takes even longer to be returned.
The Allied landing at the end of the previous year does not bring down the anti-Jewish dahirs. The authorities in place in Morocco maintain the exclusionary measures for months, on the grounds that they were promulgated by the sultan and fall under the law of the protectorate. Children expelled from schools do not return to them right away, dismissed civil servants are not reinstated, and the restitution of property placed under provisional administration drags on even longer. Abrogation will only come after repeated approaches to the French and Allied authorities.
