The foreign Jews of the Loire are arrested and taken up to Drancy.
At the end of August, the prefecture of the Loire orders the arrest in Saint-Étienne and throughout the département of foreign Jews, in accordance with the roundups consented to by Vichy. The families are gathered and then transported to Drancy via Lyon. The Saint-Étienne basin was home to workers who had come from Central Europe during the interwar period, as well as refugees from the exodus, and several were hidden in villages on the neighboring plateau.
