Town of Pokutie, Obertyn sees its Jews locked in a few houses then taken to the neighboring county seat, the elderly and the sick being shot before departure.
Obertyn, a town on the plain of eastern Galicia where large cattle fairs were held, supported a community of shopkeepers, cart drivers, and craftsmen. Under the occupation, it was subjected to requisitions and forced labor, then gathered and directed toward the enclosed quarters of neighboring towns, where families crowded together before the convoys. Those who remained, deemed unfit, were shot in the surroundings of the town, and the houses were given over to looting.
