The foreign Jews of the city are arrested at dawn and directed towards Vénissieux.

At the end of August, the French police arrest in Lyon and the Rhône foreign Jews who had entered France after a date set by Vichy. The families are gathered at the Part-Dieu barracks and then directed to the camp at Vénissieux, where social workers and clergy obtain at the last moment the clandestine release of several dozen children. The others depart for Drancy and from there to Upper Silesia. The roundup takes place in the unoccupied zone, without a single German soldier.
