The Shoah (1939–1945)

Shootings of Orcha

Nov. 1941·Orcha

Toll
plusieurs centaines

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The Jews locked in the city's ghetto are shot on the periphery.

Orcha, on the Dnieper, is occupied in July. The Jews of the city are confined in a closed quarter established in the low houses near the station, subjected to forced labor and deprived of supplies throughout the autumn.

The quarter is emptied in November and its inhabitants shot at the outskirts. As in the other cities of the Dnieper valley, the small number of victims is due to the fact that a large part of the population had followed the evacuation of the factories eastward.
