Pogrom of the October Manifesto
octobre 1905·Orcha
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
Jewish quarter ransacked
The Jewish quarter of Orcha was sacked during the October wave.
Orcha is a small town in the Pale of Settlement like hundreds of others, and its pogrom left only a few lines. The wave counts more than six hundred in a matter of weeks. It is this mass of events, more than the great urban episodes, that convinced an entire generation that there was nothing to expect from the Empire and that filled the boats bound for America.
