Kremenets was home to one of the oldest communities in Volhynia and a renowned yeshiva. The final liquidation was marked by fire: inhabitants set the ghetto ablaze rather than be led to the pits. These acts of refusal, rare and without issue, left few written traces and are known only through the accounts of the few survivors.
