The Shoah (1939–1945)

Massacre of Kėdainiai

28 août 1941·Kėdainiai

Toll
~2 000 morts

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The community of the town on the Nevėžis, known for its market gardeners and study house, is led outside the walls and shot in one day.

Kėdainiai, on the Nevėžis, had an ancient merchant community and a stone synagogue that still stands. At the end of August, men, women, and children were gathered, then led out of the city and shot in a single day at the edge of a pit prepared near the river. The Jews from neighboring towns, brought there in the preceding days, perished with them.
