The Shoah (1939–1945)

Shooting of Jurbarkas

3 juil. 1941·Jurbarkas

Toll
~320 morts

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

On the banks of the Neman, the Jewish men of the town are led to the Jewish cemetery and shot after being forced to demolish the synagogue.

Jurbarkas, on the bank of the Niémen, was home to an ancient community whose wooden synagogue was one of the most remarkable in the country. In early July, the Jewish men are gathered, forced to demolish that sanctuary themselves, then led to the Jewish cemetery and shot. The women and children are murdered in the weeks that follow, completing the annihilation of the town.
