The small community of Daruvar, in western Slavonia, is rounded up by Ustaše authorities and taken to the camps where its members disappear.
Daruvar, in western Slavonia, was home to a small Jewish community of merchants and property owners, formed by the settlement of families from the Habsburg lands in the nineteenth century. The Ustasha regime struck without delay: racial decrees stripped the community of its property, excluded it from trades and professions, and imposed the identifying mark. Arrests were carried out by the local militia during the summer and autumn; families were taken to camps established a few dozen kilometers away, on the plain of the Sava. The community of Daruvar was annihilated there and never reconstituted itself.
