The city of Mayence expelled its Jews once again.

This was the second expulsion from the Rhenish city, thirty-two years after the first; a third, at the end of the century, would bring to an end for the Middle Ages the oldest community in Germany. Its masters, Gershom de Mayence and then the Rhenish schools, had laid the foundations of the law and liturgy of Ashkenazi Judaism as a whole.
