Expulsion of the Jews of Mainz by the city

1438·Mayence

Toll
toute la communauté

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The city of Mainz expelled its Jews.

It was the first of three expulsions that the Rhenish city would pronounce within half a century, each followed by a return negotiated at a price; the last, at the end of the century, would be definitive for the Middle Ages. The community of Mainz was the oldest in Germany and its school had trained the masters of the Rhineland.
