The Jewish quarter of Spire was attacked during a riot.
The city had been, together with Worms and Mayence, one of the three cities of the Rhenish group that formed the first Judaism of Germany, and its privilege of ten eighty-four is the oldest founding charter of a Jewish community in the Empire. What remained of it in the fifteenth century did not last much longer: the city expelled its Jews in the following generation.
