The community of Haguenau, an imperial city of Alsace, was destroyed during the Black Death.
Charles IV had, in advance, pardoned the cities of the Empire for the violence to come against the Jews and ceded their property to the magistrates: the charters say as much without circumlocution, and they predate the massacres.
