The community of Riez was attacked during the massacres of the Black Death in Haute-Provence. The episcopal city was home to a small Jewish quarter.
The Provençal notarial registers, better preserved than the chronicles, allow these communities to be followed until their disappearance: contracts, sales, loans, then nothing. For many towns, it is the silence of the notary's minutes, after a certain date, that attests to the massacre.
