The call of Montblanc, in Catalonia, was attacked during the massacres of the Black Death. The town was a merchant center of the camp of Tarragona.
The Catalan communities held from the crown precise privileges, with their own jurisdiction and their own taxes, and they organized themselves into solidarity collectes. After the plague, the survivors had to negotiate remissions of fiscal debts: royal protection had to be paid for, and a decimated community could no longer afford it.
