the community attacked
The community of Digne, in Haute-Provence, was attacked during the massacres of the Black Death. The small inland towns were struck after the ports.
Pope Clement VI, in Avignon, issued two bulls that year to refute the accusation of poisoning the wells, observing that Jews were dying of the plague like everyone else and that it was also raging in places where there were none. The bulls were read and the massacres continued.
