the community attacked
The community of Uzès, in Languedoc, was attacked during the lepers' affair. The town had an ancient Jewish quarter, mentioned as early as the Carolingian era.
The surviving Jews of the Midi were driven from the kingdom the following year, less than ten years after having been recalled there. Between the Pastoureaux, the lepers and the expulsion, three years sufficed to erase Languedocian Judaism, which had given Jewish culture the translators of Lunel and the commentators of Narbonne.
