Two armed men open fire on travelers gathered at a bus stop at the Ramot junction, north of Jerusalem, at the hour when residents are leaving for work. The assailants are shot down by a soldier and a civilian present on the scene.
The Ramot junction is one of the main entry points into the city from the northern neighborhoods, used every morning by thousands of people; it had already been the site of a car-ramming attack some years earlier. The shooting is the deadliest carried out in Jerusalem since that of the Neve Yaakov synagogue, and it occurs in a wartime context in which the city had been relatively spared.
