The Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation, in Higher Crumpsall, serves the north of Manchester, home to the largest Jewish community in the United Kingdom outside London. On 2 October 2025, Yom Kippur, a man drove his car into worshippers outside the synagogue, then attacked them with a bladed weapon; he was shot dead by police a few minutes later. Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz were killed at the door, which worshippers were holding shut from inside to prevent the attacker from entering the packed prayer hall; the inquiry established that one of them had been struck by police gunfire. The perpetrator, a British citizen born in Syria, had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State. The government strengthened the protection of Jewish places of worship across the country following the attack.
