Jewish shops ransacked in Cheetham Hill

Manchester, whose Cheetham Hill district had concentrated since the previous century a large Jewish community, come from Eastern Europe, is struck by the wave of riots of the summer.

Jewish shops are ransacked there for several nights in a row, shop windows broken and merchandise thrown into the street. The violence targets merchants with no connection to the events in Palestine, and part of the British press attributes it explicitly to the resentment born of the execution of the two sergeants.

These days left a lasting mark on the Memory of the Manchester community, which discovers that hostility could turn against it in its own country.
