A city in Northern Transylvania, Târgu Mureș sees its community locked in a brickyard on the outskirts along with those from towns in the district, then taken by convoy to the killing camp.
Marosvásárhely (Târgu Mureș), capital of the Székely Land, was home to a large community, divided between Orthodox and Neolog congregations, whose Moorish-style synagogue ranked among the most remarkable in Transylvania. Its merchants, craftsmen, and liberal professionals had long held an established place in the city. After the German occupation of Hungary, the Jews of the city and district were confined in a brickyard on the outskirts, then transported in early summer to the extermination center in Upper Silesia.
