Jewish hostages are shot near Lyon in reprisal, a few days before the German retreat.
At the end of June, the French Militia took Jewish hostages from the Montluc fort in Lyon and shot them at Rillieux-la-Pape, in retaliation for the execution of a Vichy government minister by the Resistance. The bodies were left on site. The regional chief of the Militia publicly claimed responsibility for the operation, which was one of the charges brought against him at his trial after the war.
