Town in the Jazyges region, Jászberény sees its community penned in a closed quarter then taken to the assembly points of the region, from where the convoys depart.
Jászberény, capital of the Jassic region, harbored a long-established community despite the ancient privileges that had long forbidden Jewish settlement there, whose families kept shops and workshops around the market. It had its own synagogue and school. Following the German occupation of Hungary, the Jews of the town and district were confined to a ghetto, then gathered in the camps of the region; the convoys departed in early summer toward the extermination center in Upper Silesia.
