Hungarian White Terror
1919-1920·Orgovány
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
Jews and left-wing activists kidnapped and murdered in the woods
In Orgovány, detachments seized Jews and left-wing militants and murdered them in the surrounding woods.
The place has become in Hungary the generic name for the White Terror, as other localities elsewhere have become for other crimes. The nocturnal abductions and executions carried out in isolation, without trial or trace, constitute a mode of operation distinct from the street pogrom: the aim was no longer to terrorize a crowd but to make designated individuals disappear.
