A confluence town in northern Transdanubia, Győr sees its community confined to a closed quarter then taken to a defunct factory, before convoys in early summer.
Győr, at the confluence of the Rába and the Danube, held a thriving Neolog community, whose domed synagogue and school were among the finest in Transdanubia, and whose families played a part in the city's industry and trade. After the German occupation, the Jews of Győr and the surrounding county were confined to a ghetto established around the synagogue, then gathered in a brickworks on the outskirts of the city. The convoys departed in early summer for the extermination center in Upper Silesia.
