The Shoah (1939–1945)

Arrests in Bologna

1944·Bologne

Toll
bilan non établi

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The Jews of Bologna are sought from the racial census lists; arrests follow in succession over months and the interned rejoin the nearby Fossoli camp.

Arrests continue in Bologna at the beginning of the year, carried out by the police of the Repubblica Sociale and German services. The Bologna community had been reconstituted in the previous century, after centuries of prohibition against residing in the Papal States. Those arrested in Bologna are taken to Fossoli, a camp located a short distance away, which had become the hub of deportations from the peninsula. Families are hidden by clergy and neighbors.
