The community of Ancona, port on the Adriatic where Jews had lived since the Middle Ages, is hunted by the police of the fascist republic; some of its members hide in farms in the Marches until the arrival of the Allies.
The Jews of Ancône are sought out at the beginning of the year, in an Adriatic port city whose community had witnessed in the sixteenth century the burning of the Marranos ordered by the Pope. The arrests are carried out before the front moves up the peninsula. Some of the Jewish inhabitants of Ancône hide in the villages of the Marches, where they are sheltered by peasants and convents. Those who are captured are transported northward.
