The small community of Vranje, placed under Bulgarian administration, is arrested at the same time as those of Macedonia and led toward deportation trains.

Vranje, in the far south of Serbia, was home to a small Sephardic community living from trade and craftsmanship. The partition of the country placed the city under Bulgarian administration, a regime that drew a strict distinction between its own Jewish nationals — whom it did not deport — and those of the newly annexed territories, whom it handed over. The families of Vranje were arrested in the spring, at the same time as those of Macedonia and the neighboring districts, gathered together, stripped of their possessions, then conveyed to the deportation trains. No community reconstituted itself in the city after the war.
