The Jews of Kragujevac are caught in German reprisals striking the city, then in the census and executions ordered against Jewish men in Serbia.

Kragujevac, an industrial city in central Serbia, had a small Jewish community integrated into the life of the arsenal and local trade. The German occupation first applied the standard measures — census, marking, forced labor — before the city became the site of one of the heaviest reprisals of the Serbian campaign, when occupation troops carried out mass shootings of the city's men and adolescents following an ambush. The Jews of Kragujevac were caught up in this wave, and then in the census and executions ordered specifically against Jewish men in Serbia that autumn. Women and children were taken to the open camp near the capital.
