The community of Ruma, in Syrmia, is subjected to Ustaše racial decrees from the first weeks, then rounded up and taken to internment sites of the new State.

Ruma, a market town in Syrmia on the edge of the plain, was home to a Jewish community combining Ashkenaze families of Austro-Hungarian tradition and merchants who arrived later. When the province was annexed by the Ustasha state, it was subjected to the racial decrees of spring: within a matter of weeks, the community lost its property, its businesses, and its rights. The men were rounded up first, in summer, and sent to the camps the regime had just opened; the women, children, and elderly followed in the winter months. The community of Ruma, one of the oldest in the region, disappeared entirely.
