As Western Thrace is administered by the Bulgarian occupier, the Jews of the city are handed over and transported by river to the camps in the East.
Western Thrace being administered by the Bulgarian occupier, the Jews of Alexandroupoli were handed over to the German authorities in the early spring. The families were rounded up at night, held in warehouses, then transported by river and rail to the camps in the East. None of the persons deported from Alexandroupoli ever returned. The community of the Thracian port, which had lived by maritime trade, never reconstituted itself after the war.
