The Shoah (1939–1945)

Liquidation of the Rahachow ghetto

Mars 1942·Rahachow

Toll
plus de mille morts

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The ghetto established on the banks of the Dnieper is emptied in spring; its inhabitants are led out of the city in groups and shot.

Rahachow, on the Dniepr, sees its Jews confined to a ghetto from the autumn of the invasion, subjected to forced labor and starvation. In the spring, the ghetto is liquidated: the inhabitants are led out of the city and shot beside pits dug in a neighboring ravine. A few families hidden by neighbors survive until the liberation of the region.
