First major liquidation of Operation Reinhard: the ghetto is emptied in weeks and its inhabitants sent to Bełżec.
Lublin is the headquarters of the administration conducting Operation Reinhard, and its own closed quarter is the first major target. The liquidation begins in mid-March and continues for several weeks.
The inhabitants are gathered block by block, at night, and led to a freight station from which convoys depart for Bełżec. Those who remain are transferred to the suburb of Majdan Tatarski, while awaiting the liquidation of that last enclave. The yeshiva of Lublin, one of the most renowned in Europe, had already been closed and looted.
