The Shoah (1939–1945)

Roundups of the camps of Haute-Garonne

août 1942·Noé et Récébédou

Toll
bilan non établi

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The two Toulouse camps hand over their Jewish internees to convoys heading up toward Drancy.

The camps of Noé and Récébédou, in Haute-Garonne, had been opened to receive the sick and the elderly from the large camps of the South-West. At the end of the summer, the Vichy administration selected the foreign Jews there to hand them over to the occupier, with no regard for the state of health that had justified their transfer. The convoys made their way to Drancy via Saint-Sulpice and Toulouse. The protests of the Archbishop of Toulouse, read from the pulpit throughout his diocese, represent one of the first public condemnations of these handovers by a French authority.
