The Shoah (1939–1945)
Liquidation of the Lutsk ghetto
Août 1942·Loutsk
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
The ghetto was liquidated, its inhabitants shot on Polanka hill.
Lutsk, the capital of Volhynia, had already experienced mass shootings the previous year. The enclosed district that remained brought together survivors and craftsmen retained for labor.
It was liquidated at the end of the summer, its inhabitants led to the hill of Polanka, on the outskirts of the city, where the pits had been prepared. A group of workers from the neighboring labor camp attempted to resist and set fire to their barracks before being crushed.
