The Shoah (1939–1945)

Revolt of the Ivianiets ghetto

22 juin 1942·Ivianiets

Toll
plusieurs centaines de morts

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The Jews employed in the garrison's weapons workshop steal rifles piece by piece and hide them; on the appointed day, they kill the guards, set fire to the buildings and force their way to the neighboring forest. Several hundred inhabitants thus leave the ghetto; those who remain are shot, but the escapees join the partisan detachments in the region.

In Ivianiets, the occupier had set up a weapons repair workshop run by Jewish workers, which placed rifles within reach of the detainees. On the day the liquidation of the enclosed quarter is announced, the workers seize the repaired weapons, open fire on the guard and breach the perimeter; several hundred people flee through the orchards toward the Naliboki forest and join the partisan detachments. Those who remain are shot that same day.
