The Shoah (1939–1945)

Liquidation of the Dokshytsy Ghetto

printemps 1942·Dokshytsy

Toll
plusieurs milliers de morts

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The ghetto, where Jews from several towns in the district had been crammed, is liquidated in two days; the inhabitants are shot at the edge of open pits near the city and the quarter is then razed.

The enclosed quarter of Dokshytsy, in the Vitebsk region, is emptied in the spring: its inhabitants are led to pits dug not far from the road, in groups spread over two days. The craftsmen kept to serve the needs of the garrison are shot several weeks later. The town had a community centuries old, of which after that season neither inhabitants nor house of study remains.
