The ancient Comtat community is struck by arrests and deportations.
At the end of August, the prefecture of Vaucluse ordered the arrest of foreign Jews in the department as part of the deliveries promised to the occupier. The families were gathered and then directed to Drancy. The Comtat Venaissin was home to four ancient communities, known as the Quatre Saintes Communautés, whose descendants still lived in Avignon, Carpentras, Cavaillon and L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.
