The community of the former capital of the grand dukes, settled there since the Middle Ages, is shot in a nearby wood; the Karaites of the city, held by the occupant to not be Jews, are spared, which ends up separating two centuries-old neighborhoods.
Trakai, the former ducal capital on the shores of its lakes, was home to two distinct communities: the Rabbanite Jews and the Karaites, both settled there since the Middle Ages. The occupier, having decided that the latter did not fall under its measures, left them in place and had the former led toward the pits of Paneriai alongside the Jews of the Vilna region. The separation carried out that day has left a lasting mark on the Memory of the city.
