A river port on the Dnieper where the community lived from timber and trade, Rechitsa saw its Jews confined to a quarter of barracks then taken to the pits of the neighboring forest.
Retchitsa, a river port on the Dnieper, had seen its Jewish population grow alongside the sawmills and warehouses. The inhabitants who remained when the occupiers arrived were rounded up, held for several weeks, then led in columns toward pits dug at the edge of the city.
