The Shoah (1939–1945)
Massacre of Marijampolė
1er sept. 1941·Marijampolė
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
On the banks of the Šešupė river, the community of the town and those of the towns of Sudūva are shot down in a single day, along with the sick from a nearby hospice.
Marijampolė, in the southwest of the country, serves as a gathering point for Jews from throughout the Suvalkija region. In early September, all are led to the banks of the Šešupė river and shot in a single day by the mobile detachment and its auxiliaries. It is one of the heaviest executions recorded in the commando's report.
