The community of the town of Souvalkie, one of the last still living in the country, is shot in early winter in a wood in the vicinity; the operation closes the series of killings that the mobile unit has carried out district by district since summer.
Lazdijai, in southern Lithuania near the Prussian border, saw its community locked in a disused barracks and then led to pits dug at the edge of the town. The executions there came later than in the rest of the country: the region, densely populated with Jews, had first served as a gathering point for the surrounding localities before being liquidated in turn.
