On the banks of the Daugava, the community of the small border town is annihilated in the months following the entry of German troops.
Krāslava, on the Daugava, was home to an ancient community whose synagogue dominated the town. During the summer of the invasion, the town's Jews were rounded up, held for several weeks in requisitioned buildings, then shot in groups in the surrounding woods by Latvian auxiliaries under the supervision of the German security police.
