The community of the small forest town, one of the oldest in the country, is led by convoys to Girelė woods and shot; only the memory of its study houses survives from its religious life.
Jonava, on the Neris, was home to a community that made up the largest part of the town's population. From the very first weeks of the occupation, the men were shot in the nearby woods by a mobile detachment supported by local auxiliaries; the women and children followed during the summer, in the pits dug near the Girelė road. The community vanished entirely.
