The Dresden synagogue, a work by the architect who built the city's opera house, was consigned to the flames; only the star on the pediment was saved by a firefighter.

In Dresden, the synagogue built in the preceding century by a renowned architect is set ablaze during the night of violence, and its ruins are subsequently demolished. Shops are ransacked and men are arrested. The Saxon community loses its main place of worship; only the star from the pediment, rescued from the flames by a firefighter, will be preserved.
