The community of Dresden was destroyed during the Black Death.

The city was then but a small town of the margraves of Meissen; Judaism did not reappear there until the eighteenth century, when the kings of Saxony called court financiers to settle there.

The margraves disposed of the property of the dead, as did the other princes of the Empire; the town had no organized Jewish community for four centuries.
