Parytchy, a town on the Bérézina in Belarusian Polesia, was home to a Jewish community that lived from timber floating and small trade. Armed bands active in the final period of the civil war forced their way into and emptied Jewish homes, beat the inhabitants, and carried off their supplies. As elsewhere in Polesia, the abuses were committed by local detachments rather than armies on the march.
